What is Mesothelioma ?

Definition of Mesothelioma is a uncommon form of cancer that evolves from a protective layer which protects many internal organs, or often called the mesothelium.

Interpreting mesothelium is a membrane that covers and protects most of the organs. It is composed of two layers of cells: One layer encompassing the organ, the other forms a sac around it. The mesothelium makes a lubricating fluid spread between the layers, so that moving organs (such as the heart to beat and the expanding and contracting lungs) to glide easily against adjacent structures.

This cancer usually caused by exposure to asbestos are breathed in into the human lung. The most common sites affected by Mesothelioma cancer is the pleura (the outer layer of the lungs and internal chest wall), but also can happen in the peritoneum (abdominal cavity lining), heart, pericardium (the sac that surrounds the heart) or tunica vaginalis.

Mesothelioma generally found in people with a lot of work in the fields where they inhaled asbestos particles of glass, or they have been exposed to asbestos dust and asbestos fibers in other ways.

In the last 20 years reported that an increment is very high, though mesothelioma is still a relatively rare cancer. About 2,000 new cases of mesothelioma diagnosed in the United States each year. Mesothelioma is more often affected in men than in women and risk also increases with age, but this disease can appear in men or women at any age.
